A Note from Derek of CBT

Imagine a place where designers and architects can gather in a low-pressure environment - to learn, create, ruminate and brainstorm. A place outside of their own offices, but also not within a permanently branded showroom. A place to sandbox concepts and designs from manufacturers who don’t normally have much of a physical presence here in Boston.

Now we’ll have one - accessible via public transportation and in a bustling, lively neighborhood. The ultimate pop-up, curated for our industry.

When the team behind CURIO first approached me with their idea, it really got my wheels turning. Outside of a few exclusive spots way out at the Design Center, we’ve never had a dedicated space like this. Think of all the great new things we could see in person without going to NY or Chicago! Think of the dynamic events that could be hosted, learning sessions offered, and so much more.

It will evolve as we evolve, and offer a home to new ideas and fresh perspectives.

I am incredibly excited for the launch of CURIO, and what it means for the powerhouse that is Boston’s design industry. To me it will be like a little slice of Disney’s EPCOT - “always in a state of becoming.” It will evolve as we evolve, and offer a home to new ideas and fresh perspectives.

As designers in this new era, we’re asked to be nimble in new ways; to help navigate our clients toward designs that are not only suitable for them now, but adaptable for an accelerated pace of change and scalability. With all this in mind, CURIO’s arrival could not be more timely.
